Million Veteran Program (MVP) Research Opportunity

Million Veteran Program (MVP) Research Opportunity

VA’s Million Veteran Program (MVP) is a national research initiative examining how genetics, lifestyle factors, miliary experiences and environmental exposures influence health and wellness among Veterans. Since its launch in 2011, more than one million Veterans have enrolled, making MVP the largest research program within the Department of Veterans Affairs and one of the largest efforts worldwide dedicated to understanding the role of genes and environment in human health.

Why MVP?

MVP is one of the most powerful research resources available in Veteran health research, combining:

  • VA electronic health record (EHR) data at massive scale: with over 1 million participants
  • Veteran survey data covering health history, health behaviors, and military-related exposures
  • Large genomic datasets including:
    o Genotype data
    o Whole genome sequence (WGS)
    o Methylation

This combination makes MVP especially well-suited for high-impact, well-powered studies across a wide range of clinical and behavioral health questions.

How affiliates can get involved.

MVP analyses occur within secure VA computing environments, and access to individual-level data requires a VA appointment and VA network account.

However, affiliates without VA access can still participate through collaboration.
